Have you tried hitting F2 while booting?

You need to give us more details about your computer. If the computer is
locking up as soon as you turn it on, then you have hardware failure
and need to call Gateway tech support. I'm afraid I don't know what you
mean by "halted mode". Can you explain please?

If it doesn't continue after pressing F1, call Gateway tech support as
it sounds like a motherboard issue.
