USB device connections/disconnections affect screensaver

Everytime I connect and disconnect my USB flash drive from my laptop
which is running WinXP Home SP2 it stops the screensaver from executing
at it selected "wait" time. Is this something I can fix? My current
and only work around to make the screensaver execute as it should, is
to open the desktop properties and change the wait time by a minute
(up/down) and click apply and or OK.
