i know its the wrong spot for this. blow me :)

ok. i got a NF7-S rev2 last week. works amazing. it came with a sata-ide converter.. i didnt use it at first, just used the ide cable because i was too lazy (btw i gotta say that nforce2 ide controller is top notch. my hdd has never been so fast)..

so last nite i was bored so i decided t ouse it. popped the converter on my hdd, connected the cables and booted. autodetected everything, got into windows.... heres the annoying part:

when i first get into windows theres a rundll32 that has never been there before. my whole system hangs for about 4 minutes when i first boot, then the rundll32 dissapears and its business as usual... thats the first problem.

installing latest drivers from Abits site didnt help.

ok and the performance. before, i was gettin 55-58 read/write transfer rates thru Sisoft Sandra and HDTach. with Sata, im gettin 40 consistant.

gotta go back to ide.. this really sucks. anyone seen this before?

Whip it out, big boy.

Interesting problem. I can't say I've ever seen it before. I would try to uninstall the ide controllers and clean your registry.

Darn, looks like Black_Cat got it this time.

Have you tried updating the nForce drivers from nVidia?
Or was Abit also furnishing them on their site?

Do follow BC's tip on the IDE controller drivers, they might be conflicting.
Otherwise it's an odd problem, but since enabling SATA seems to have generated a problematic file on bootup, then it must be something in the software for sure. Drivers likely.

Are you getting a slow performance IN Windows, and not through synthetic tests like SiSoft Sandra?

whats so weird about it?

You should be getting worse performance. You definitly will have higher latencies, more crc errors etc. by adding in that converter. I have never heard of a drive operating faster with a converter installed. Change it back!

If it isn't a P6 then it isn't a processor

Okay wait a minute. I think I read that too fast. He has an ATA IDE HDD and is using a converter to use SATA? Yeah yeah. Change it back. Problem solved.

serioulsy , wierd i didnt know that putting an ide hdd on a sata drive would slow it down...

if theres no benifit to going with sata with an ide drive, back to ide i go

damn those thin little cables are nice tho ;/

ps: yea ive tried 3 different driver versions. windows built in drivers, the ones on my mobo cd, and from abits site. same problem each time...

The Virtual Fight Club alas did not use many dirty scenes, it mostly continued with "smart aleck TV and Movie witty remarks" that RobD and Wingding exchanged as blows to each other.

We should have a Virtual Dirty Fight Club!
