Heloo very1.
I am getting a bargain for AMD Athlon XP processor plus an MSI Motherboard (K7N2 Delta) >> 2 Serial ATA, 400 FSB, Dual DDR, 8X.
Its called AMD in a box solution where I have an Athlon XP 3200+ cpu with the MSI motherboard. I am getting it for around say 355 US $. Does anyone recommend the Athlon XP 3200+ at this price. Considering the motherboard is a good one.
Please let me know.

Athlon 64 3000+ is the best CPU for your budget.

Current A64 chipset/mobos aren't bad, but if you can wait 2-4 weeks, then you can buy nForce3 250 based mobos, which looks very good from previews

Without even looking hard you could find a AMD64 3000+ on an ASUS K8V Deluxe for 339. Cheaper if you looked a little. I don't know how well the new NF3 boardw ill be, but they should be nice. And the SIS boards are now hitting the market and are supposed to be a nice board as well. All these boards are going to bring you in around 330-350 USD.

I won't spout the long term benefits about 64 bit and the future, but I do know that mine kicks butt in 32 apps now, and that's all that matters as far as I'm concerned.

Athlon 64 - 3000+ cpu is very expensive at the moment.
Even the motherboards r expensive.
I dont think i can get for a mere 355 US $ a solution for CPU and motherboard for the Athlon 64.

Yopu can actually get it for less than that if you want to go with a gigabyte or ECS SIS 755 board. It's around 320. I cost of ASUS board (on a quick look up went up 20 bucks. So 3000+ = $211 at monarchcomputers.com, ASUS K8V Deluxe = $159. Abit KV8 MAx3 is $149.

So:
3000+ and ASUS = 370
3000+ and Abit = 360

They a both top of the line boards, the Abit is better cooled.

Goingt po price watch you get the ABit for $144 at Partspc.com, and the ASUS for $127 at computerbrain.com.

So:
3000+ and ASUS = $338
3000+ and Abit = $355

Hecks..at sonicparts.com you can get a 3000+ on a ECS SIS 755 board for $292.

Anyway you slice it it is a better deal than an XP3200.

OK, I think the answer everyone is giving is the XP3200+ and MSI board for that price isn't wise now.

A64 3000+ is much faster.

As Spitfire said, the NF3 250 Socket 754 boards will be out in a few weeks. Waiting for those would be wise. Many such as myself feel that the current motherboards for A64 aren't fully up to par and new ones are so close.

If you don't really need to upgrade now but just didn't want to miss out on that box deal if it was a good value, then waiting until you can buy a Socket 939 NF3 250 motherboard can also be considered very wise. They are due out around May. And they are the future of A64.

If you need to buy now. People are showing you where you can get A64 now in that price range. I can't recommend a board, I'll leave that to those who have actually used one. I also at the risk of being jumped on by a small group of people offer another suggestion. IF YOU are not apposed to Intel, An Abit IS7/ P4 2.8C is a great choice. It is at least as fast an mostly faster than the XP3200+, but the cost is much cheaper. You can buy the IS7 and retail P4 2.8C for $275 now. That motherboard is as fast as the i875P boards, is super stable, and feature loaded. I think that this setup is a great buy now. It is slower for games than the A64, faster in media encoding than the A64. But both are fast enough for either.

OK, but again, many people here swear by A64 3000+. If you want AMD, go A64 or XP2500+ and Abit NF7(s) and save a bundle. All good choices, all better value than XP3200+.

ABIT IS7, P4 2.6C, 512MB Corsair TwinX PC3200LL, Radeon 9800 Pro, Santa Cruz, TruePower 430watt

Under no circumstances even consider the ECS 755A. It does NOT support DDR400 despite what it says on the box. The 755A2 DOES support DDR400 and is basically what the 755A was meant to be in the first place.
I've heard if you flash the 755A2 bios onto the 755A DDR400 may work, but I can't confirm if this is correct.

AMD Is An Anagram Of MAD, Intel Is An Anagram Of INLET, Cyrix...Ah Who Cares?
