Keyboard & Mouse (all PS/2) Not Working in Safe Mode

Last response: in Windows 7

Hello,

PROBLEM:
  • In SAFE MODE, keyboard and mouse (all PS/2) not working.

  • In Safe Mode: COM1 auto assigned to IRQ 1 (conflict with keyboard).
  • In Normal Mode: COM1 auto assigned to unused IRQ (no problem).
  • It's a new installation of Windows 7 Ultimate.
  • I never use any Serial or Parallel ports.
  • Mouse auto assigned to IRQ 12 (default) but doesn't work too in safe mode (depend on keyboard).

    QUESTION:
  • How to manually assign IRQ for COM1 in Safe Mode?

    ALTERNATIVE QUESTION:
  • How to remove COM1 from Windows completelly?

    Any help are appreciated.

    Hi

I assume you can get into BIOS

Once there disable Com1 & Com2 and possibly printer port LPT1
(as never used does no harm)

    see if this works,
If not find a USB mouse

    regards

    Hello,

USB mouse working (I take screenshot using emergency mouse).

    1. In BIOS, I try to DISABLE/AUTO/MANUAL the Serial and Parallel ports (COM1, COM2, LPT1):

  • Doesn't have any effects, Windows (Plug and Play) does NOT depend on BIOS settings.

    2. In Safe Mode, I try to DISABLE COM1, UNINSTALL COM1, UNINSTALL keyboard, ASSIGN COM1 to unused IRQ:

  • Doesn't have any effects. Keyboard's property box still say "IRQ conflict, used by COM1".

    3. I try to edit system.ini then reboot:

    1. [386Enh]
    2. COM1Irq=4

  • Doesn't have any effects, COM1 still assigned to IRQ 1 in Safe Mode.

    4. I try to "Take Ownership" registry and then try to delete COM1 registry in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ACPI\PNP0501\1

  • Access denied.

Please correct me if something wrong.

    Regards, thanks.
