is it possible to make a custom color scheme with the windows xp luna style
theme? possibly by editing the registry or something like that?

Hi,

Which colors were you looking to change? You can change appearance settings
in the Luna theme (Display properties/Appearance tab/Advanced), then save
the state as your own theme.

any and all colors, hence custom color scheme. the method you mentioned will
allow you to change a few settings but not change colors for luna themes

Nothing native, you'd need to use a program that included a hex editor and
have enough knowledge to know what you are doing.
