I recently purchased a new Lenovo desktop with Windows 7. I want to use my old Dell (ten ears old) Model SK-8110 PS/2 keyboard. I purchased an adapter - PS/2 keyboard to USB. When I connected it to the back of the computer, nothing happened. Don't know what to do next.

Hi, if you have an adapter like this one :

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00026Z9C...

it will not work, you need an adapter like this one :

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000086TK...

Because the signal is not the same from the PS/2 to the USB.

Hope this will help you.

So that is the problem. I ordered my PS/2 to USB adapter from Wamart.com. Would you mind looking at the one they have - it is much cheaper.

Link Depot USB 2.0 to PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse Adapter
Also, here is the webpage: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Link-Depot-USB-PS2-Link-Depot...

Thank you soooooooooooooo much. I don't want to spend $27.00 at Amazon. I could buy a new keyboard with that much money.

The obvious question is did you use the green jack or the purple jack?

Hint: It makes a difference.

The adapter is purple.

Correct answer. In that case I'd declare that the adapter you have is either faulty or, due to it's being so cheap, just garbage.

This one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000086TK... (linked to earlier) does work. I've used them before.

I hear you! But I do not want to spend $27.00 at Amazon. I could buy a new keyboard. It is just that I LOVE the feel of my old keyboard and would really like to be able to use it. Thanks.

It should with no issues. Then again, that Dell keyboard is such a basic keyboard, you can easily a very similar one for under $20:

Edit: I do a LOT of typing, and understand the joy of using a familiar keyboard, but if the adapter becomes a huge issue, find a new one.

Sorry I was away, I found in the list of Walmart one that might work. Two buyers have tried it with Windows 7 and they said it works very well.

I'm not sure I trust what they have written. Just look at 'Customer Q&A Exchange' section down the page, open 'Browse Q&A' and read the 5 answers there.
