Dell PS2Keyboard with adaptor doesn\'t work in Windows 7

I recently purchased a new Lenovo desktop with Windows 7. I want to use my old Dell (ten ears old) Model SK-8110 PS/2 keyboard. I purchased an adapter - PS/2 keyboard to USB. When I connected it to the back of the computer, nothing happened. Don't know what to do next.

  1. Hi, if you have an adapter like this one :

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00026Z9CQ/qid=1086372782

it will not work, you need an adapter like this one :

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000086TKU/qid=1086372767

Because the signal is not the same from the PS/2 to the USB.

    Hope this will help you.

So that is the problem. I ordered my PS/2 to USB adapter from Wamart.com. Would you mind looking at the one they have - it is much cheaper.

Link Depot USB 2.0 to PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse Adapter
Also, here is the webpage: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Link-Depot-USB-PS2-Link-Depot-USB-2.0-to-PS-2-Keyboard-and-Mouse-Adapter/15075023#Q%26A+Exchange

Thank you soooooooooooooo much. I don't want to spend $27.00 at Amazon. I could buy a new keyboard with that much money.
  3. Hello, that Walmart converter is also a solution in my problem. Thanks.
  4. The obvious question is did you use the green jack or the purple jack?

    Hint: It makes a difference.

    The adapter is purple.

Correct answer. In that case I'd declare that the adapter you have is either faulty or, due to it's being so cheap, just garbage.

This one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000086TKU/qid=1086372767 (linked to earlier) does work. I've used them before.

I hear you! But I do not want to spend $27.00 at Amazon. I could buy a new keyboard. It is just that I LOVE the feel of my old keyboard and would really like to be able to use it. Thanks.
  8. It should with no issues. Then again, that Dell keyboard is such a basic keyboard, you can easily a very similar one for under $20:

Edit: I do a LOT of typing, and understand the joy of using a familiar keyboard, but if the adapter becomes a huge issue, find a new one.

Sorry I was away, I found in the list of Walmart one that might work. Two buyers have tried it with Windows 7 and they said it works very well.

I hate to sound dumb but how could you tell they used with Windows 7? Thanks.
  11. I'm not sure I trust what they have written. Just look at 'Customer Q&A Exchange' section down the page, open 'Browse Q&A' and read the 5 answers there.
