Need help starting my computer

my computer won't start and i get a message saying windows is not install so i figured i'll buy windows 7 home premium (which iswhat the computer came with) and installed but i'm not sure if this is the way to fix theproblem can anyone give me any advice, also i've been looking at windows 7 Hp and there is the full version and the 64-bit - System Builder (OEM) which should i get?
