Hello Group,
I got to play a wedge-head today that I thought was Really
Great !!! "Buck-a-roo" was the game & I couldnt help but think
about the good-ols days of my Youth,
This game was about a 8.5 all around game & was 100% working, The
"Roto-Target" had minor wear on the targets them-selfs, but other than
that this was one "Sweet" playing Simple Pinball & I'd have bought the
game had it been for sale, Even more funny was the "Match" numbers from
one to Ten & this WAS a One Player game.
I just thought I'd share this as this was the 1st one I've ever played,
..

Pin-Del,

Gotta go with Lucky Hand.....great skill game, and AAB.

Those in the know understand that "newer" doesn't necessarily mean
"better".

If the bashers never played a nice example of an EM pin, well, they
don't know what they're missing.

After all......real pins don't have computers.......(IMHO, of
course......)

Buckaroo and its AAB brother, Cowpoke, are two of my personal favorites, too,
Pin-Del! These games have been on my wish list for quite a while. Still
trying to find that really nice example...

On a semi-related note, I've been noticing a lot of EM bashing lately here on
RGP. I simply cannot understand it. EM's are every bit as fun to play as
their contemporary counterparts; the ingenuity that went into the development
of many EM's is nothing short of amazing; and the artwork is often times
breathtaking. To me, Buckaroo represents the best all of these things.

Very fun pin, one of the top 5 EM pins, IMO.

Jeff, You hit it right on the head. There are alot of great EM's.
Not only can the artwork kick but the game play can be simple yet very
fun. My son plays my Wizard more then many games and of course when I
sold my last Theatre of Magic there was a line of kids clapping to the
front door. I would never see that with Wizard.

I grew up playing Spin Out, Skylab, Big Ben, Joker Poker, Spirit of 76,
Fireball, Atlantis, Centegrade 51, El Dorado etc. These initially were
the games that lured me into pinball and then Classic Sterns did the
rest. At the last Super Auction here in Dallas there was a 8.5 -9.0
Buckaroo and the owner would not take 1K for it. Did not meet the
reserve. I wanted it bad. I also have on my list a Balls
a Poppin' owned since new by a neighbor of mine I have been trying to
get for the last 3 years.

EM's are great. Simple, fun and amazing artwork. Something pinball
cannot reproduce today. That is the struggle.

Playing a top ten Classic Gottlieb wedgehead like the 1965 Buckaroo as
your "1st one you ever played" will cause you to become immediately
addicted to it and will lure you into wanting a Gottlieb wedgehead for
your own collection like us EM Gottlieb wedgehead collectors have been
doing for so many years. It's the purity that the wedgehead games
possess, combined with all the other manificent traits Gottlieb put
into a simple playing pinball machine that will hook you like a junkie
on heroin.

The real enjoyment of the wedgeheads is the power and speed these games
can produced if shopped correctly by a true collector who puts his
blood, sweat and tears into making every game play like factory new
again. The feeling in the palms of your hands that a Gottlieb wedgehead
gives you is like no other pinball game around.

You would have really gone off the deep end if the "1st wedgehead you
ever played" was the King of Diamonds because this wedgehead is truely
the number one wedgehead of all time in my opinion and a much better
player than Buckaroo by far.

I especially favor the wedgeheads because these are the games I spent
my whole youth and grown up life playing/restoring by coincidence.

Vic's right. He gave me the same advice months ago. Eventually, owning
and playing a near perfect Pop-A-Card, I can tell you he's absolutely
right. You become addicted to some of these games.

I myself am hunting for a Diamond Jack. Thanks for your past help Vic!

Vic,
This one was Really Nice !, I also liked the spinning guy on the (
or in the ) Backglass & the Bucking Horse, Both working & this game had
just been Shopped by a Local Bingo Expert
for the owner of the game, The PF art-work was still in really great
shape & I didnt see the 1s wear spot anywhere on the PF,, BG was as
good as New, Cabinet had minor yellowing
but not the 1st scuff mark of any kind on it .
I also grew up playing the EM Gottliebs & I just have a hard time
remembering the names, BUT I can say I Respect you
Collectors who Save these games as they were Tops in their day & Still
good Players today !!
My Father just gave me his last 2 Bingo's this week & I've been
playing these about every night this week "Laguna Beach"
& "Golden-Gate" Both just shopped by him & like the Buckaroo
they play like new !!, My eyes are open now to these Wedge-heads &
maybe I can get lucky & find a few for my collection.

Pin-Del, =)

PS, I know of a Super Soccer, in need of a BG for $ 50.00,
Is this one a Keeper as well ??

Pin-Del,
I have a really nice original Buckaroo too and have restored it to look
and play great again. Any wedgehead collection wouldn't be complete if
it doesn't have the Classic Buckaroo in it.

Who is the Local Bingo Expert who Shopped the Buckaroo you played ?

I am also a longtime player/collector of Bingo Pinball Machines and
have had the pleasure of owning a Golden Gate (animated..Magic Screen
Game) and many other fantastic Bally Bingo Machines made from 1951 to
1979. I have 7 outstanding original condition bingos in my collection
at the present time and sold over 30+ in the past because i ran out of
space or i would have kept them all.

How do you like playing your Languna Beach and Golden Gate ? Are you a
longtime player ?

Bingo pinball machines are awesome pins to have in a collection because
they are so different than flipper pins and reqiure more of a
skilled/gambling/thinking type game to play. What a great mix
Wedgeheads and Bingos !

I played Buckaroo when I was a kid and loved it. My best friend Bobby
and I used to play it together, me on one flipper and Bobby on the
other. It, and Kings & Queens is on my 'someday' list.

Kings and Queens is an equally excellent game!

Hey Vic,
I was addicted to Bingos while in High School & I worked at a
full service gas station after school & if we were not pumping gas we
were playing the Bingos, We has 2 in the station, one was a "OK" game &
the other was a Double-Up.
we had to wait in line to play them & had rolls of quarters in our
pockets & for a 16 year old back in 1976, I could almost win more $$
than I made pumping gas, We
"Thought" we were good & We Cheated to boot !!!! =)
I spent my early Teen years watching my Dad Shop Bingo's in our 2 Car
garage & learned how to clean the steppers & re-clutch games & all of
the Pins back then were EMs so it carryed over to the Pinballs as well,
The man who Shopped the Buckaroo's
Name is Gene Trout of Trout Dist. in Columbia SC, He STILL Stocks NOS
Parts for these Bingos & if you need his phone # let me know !!
Still thinking about going & getting the "Soccer or Super Soccer"
wedge-head I found & then trying to find a BG for that game,,, I might
get lucky if Brian S. has a BG for that one ??,, Thanks for the Info,
Vic !!!

Pin-Del, =)

Del,
go ahead and buy that Super Soccer. There are some glasses still out
there if you're not picky to the extreme. I'll find you one but chances
are it will probably end up costing more than the whole game did!

Checks watch...yep...just about time for the twice a year "we need an
EM group"

Someone started one already.

Besides, EM bashing? Haven't seen a whole lot of that at all.

Kirb
(love ems, don't see a need for a seperate group)

EM bashing- Yeah that's why I think it's time for RGP to undergo a great schism (look it up). The time has come for RGP EM and RGP SS. You could
still post on the opposing group
by starting with "CO:" or something to denote a "crossover" posting. No hard feelings or
anything, but I just think it should be done.
