Energy saving? Probably not as pumps are very much energy pigs.
Unsafe? Maybe, though a well sealed container can last a long time.
Might at a few ounces to the total weight.
All in all it sounds like a good idea.

it seems wierd apple would be having heat problems, maybe tahts why they couldnt get the g5 ready for notebooks, but i had thought they werent big power consumers or heaters.

Well, I don't know if they're "having heat problems". But the XServe G5, with dual processors (made on IBM's 90nm SOI process), has 8 (yes - eight) fans. See for yourself: http://www.apple.com/xserve/design.html. That said, the XServe G5 is a server, and they may have integrated additional fans for greater reliability?

Ya, good point, pumps do eat some energy i just wonder if its more or less... Knowing apple, buyers will not have the option to get the Laptop with or with out this setup.

From what i understand the first batch of G5s are fairly hot, not unresonable, just hotter then their usual. the next release of chips are going to be .90 and will be cooler still.

It would appear that they are looking to to do the same to other systems in their line up aswell... looking for silent computers agian, like the G4 Cube(fanless).

8 fans isnt that much considering its a 1u case. 40 mm fans dont push much air.
