Hi. I have a never used Pentium Processor @ 166MHz, Socket 5 and not MMX.
On the die body, heatsink side, are 8 surface mount capacitors-4 on each side of the heatsink mount. One of these capacitors is damaged/cut/scraped and is obviously non-functional looking.
I've never powered up this processor, so I don't know if it works.
My question is: Could this capacitor possibly be dissabled by the manufacturer for whatever reason and not the result of physical damage by handling once it left Intel.
I would appreciate responses that are not guesses. I can speculate with the best of them.

This chip does and the numbers match all of the Intel documentation. And I think I know the difference between the HS side and the pin side. Maybe I'll take a pic of it. I'll have to think about it. Don't really feel like thermal pasting it again.
