People are really going to whine about the new look but there is no denying that it's a change!

A change with no Mod or F@H section I notice...

On the R.o.C page the "Read More" link is broken, took me to the 'Storage' forum.

Typo on the Profile page page, should read "Your diligence is remarkable, with 3 months of alerts made."

I had over 150 best answers in the graphic section and a gold badge! WTF happened? :fou:

You know that question is going to come up more than a few times and I agree with Gavin about the need for arrow box overlays when there is no advancement to be had and why have legacy badges? What's that about?

No limitation on signature size has been implemented with this funky new software though.

I also cannot lose that pesky sidebar.

And we still have a UK forum, looks like I might have to dust off the laptop to test that out.

Who OK'd the Smiley list?

I haven't had time to start testing yet but if the UK General sub-forum is to disappear, could it remain on for a week or so after the permanent change to allow any open issues to be mopped up?

October 28, 2012 12:07:24 PM

I thought we were going to lose the mirror site altogether along with the Windows 2000 and Win 95, 98, ME forums. It looks like they have just jazzed up the look of the old forum and the only real changes have been to the ranking and badge system.
October 28, 2012 12:11:40 PM

I'm sure Joe posted somewhere recently that the UK site would shortly disappear.

October 28, 2012 12:20:26 PM

I thought that was one of the changes that was going to be implemented with this funky new software.
October 28, 2012 2:13:44 PM

Hey,

As far as I know, the UK mirror is going to disappear. If it isn't, I'll have Joe make sure that is the case :)  That mirror has been nothing but hassles!

Sorry about that, old chap - is it the language difference that offends our US friends|? :D  :D

October 28, 2012 6:51:37 PM

I'm only going to say that it's never worked right and leave it at that.

Just playing with account log on and my confirmation email hasn't turned up, I'll have to go check some settings.
October 29, 2012 11:52:47 AM

Hey,

Did you follow the instructions to fix your e-mail: When your account was ported over, it may have had the bomnotifications2@gmail.com email set as a part of the beta test. If you'd like to get confirmations and notifications, be sure to change your email address in your profile page.

Justin
October 29, 2012 4:33:26 PM

My test account is showing the correct email address but then I've had no emails from THGF for ages anyway so it's no surprise that the new software doesn't like me either.
October 29, 2012 4:52:01 PM

I've just killed my test account because it seems that you can't have the same email address for different accounts, I also noticed another grammar error:-
Quote:
An email has been sent to your email address. Please click the link in the email to confirm that you've received it. You'll then start to receive notifications and will receive full account membership rights. If you can't find the confirmation email, check your spam folder. If it isn't valid anymore, or you can't it, click here to have it resent to you.
October 29, 2012 5:55:11 PM

Hey,

Yeah, the system we use to send e-mails is exactly the same. I wouldn't think an issue you've had before with that would be fixed now. Have you spoken with Joe about that before?

Justin
October 29, 2012 8:08:57 PM

I'm sure it's been mentioned in the past by myself and Random but I can't recall when.

You mentioned in the top sticky the phasing out of old forums and introduction of new ones, does this mean that the THGF F@H team will get its own section at long last?  :sol:
October 29, 2012 8:48:21 PM

FYI, I received my confirmation emails.
October 29, 2012 9:12:51 PM

Oh it's just me it doesn't like then?
October 29, 2012 9:31:40 PM

Seems that way, at least for now.
October 30, 2012 2:03:22 PM

Mousemonkey,

I know Joe promised you a F@H forum... Under the new system it should be easier to roll out new forums. However, he's going to have to give the ultimate answer on that.

Justin
October 30, 2012 4:27:52 PM

Hey Mousemonkey,

Here is the feedback to your issues:

"On the R.o.C page the "Read More" link is broken, took me to the 'Storage' forum" - I think you mean it took you to the forum where it says "More about - Read" this is a bug. Its supposed to show more about the subject, but only to non-logged in users. For some reason it thinks the subject is "Read" instead of "read more"

Typos - Will be fixed

"I had over 150 best answers in the graphic section and a gold badge! WTF happened?" - very important point: part of the beta is to ensure that all of this is migrated correctly to the new system. In this case, you have been granted the "Graphics veteran++ (Legacy)" badge that requires at least 150 best answers. New badges are based on the new tagging system, and the new "Graphics cards" badge will be granted based on best answers to threads tagged "Graphics cards". For now, the thread tagging has been roughly applied, so that there are both "graphics card" and "graphics cards" found in the forums. When everything is more consistent (everyting tagged "graphics cards"), more relevant badge levels should be found. This is though a time-consuming task, so give us some time to conduct this tag consistency job.

Legacy Badges: Answered here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/55-68-beta-test-frequ...

"No limitation on signature size" - at this stage we leave it to the mods to act on signature abuse.

"I also cannot lose that pesky sidebar." - it cannot be removed at this stage. We are going to add this feature back, but its going to take some time, it won't be done by the initial release. More like 2013, unfortunately. We need to think of the best way to do it.

"Who OK'd the Smiley list?" - it has not been reviewed by Joe yet. Any input welcome. Or even if some people would take charge of reviewing this list, that would alleviate Joe's work. Key points: do not add more than 5 smilie icons to this list. Change smilie codes as sounds good. Remove unnecessary smilies.

Hi Justin, thank you for the clarifications, I'm sure we are going to be asked about the badges and best answers when the new system goes live as for the smilies list I will put my hand up for reviewing and amending it and I'm sure there are others who would be happy to help out.
October 30, 2012 5:30:44 PM

Hey,

Great! Talk with Joe about that. I mean, if only 5 are allowed, it can't be THAT major of a project to filter them out... I hope!

Why can't I reply? I'm logged in and everyfink! :(
October 30, 2012 9:42:36 PM

I like but how do I respond?

Was this thread closed? If so there is no obvious indication.
October 31, 2012 4:35:03 PM

Will do on the URL's, I still have no reply box on that thread though.

October 31, 2012 7:55:26 PM

Hey,

That is odd. We're going to have to report that one.

Justin

Thanks... We'll check it out.

Hey there Mousemonkey!

You mentioned you didn't like the smilies. What's your issue with them, specifically? I'm reviewing them now for the developers, and want to get your feedback since you mentioned them in particular.
November 20, 2012 4:47:28 AM

I was referring to the fact that there has been a doubling up of a couple of them, not that I didn't like them. The finger smilie has been doubled up as :***: & :kryfuck: (which shouldn't be there anyway) and :jakebarnssmilie: and :homer:  smilie are blank.

November 20, 2012 6:16:44 AM

There's a jakebarnssmilie?

Yah don't need badges or points, it's not like they can be traded in for beer or anything.
November 26, 2012 3:32:08 PM

They should have a store for us to trade points in for something like past items Tom's has reviewed.

+1

We need no stinking badges! :kaola:
December 21, 2012 8:10:20 PM

No, i figure it out with my mouse and my monkey.
December 27, 2012 11:30:57 PM

Why is it that I still can't close the right hand column? Is that going to be a stable feature?

That is really annoying and makes it impossible for me to use Tom's on my mobile. Also, in the column I can't get rid of we have a box showing the "latest Best Answer" - one of which is from one thousand and something days ago!
December 28, 2012 1:16:11 PM

Yeah it really needs to be sorted out if they intend to go live in less than a couple of months.
December 30, 2012 2:20:48 AM

It is indeed a change! So, what's the time table on going live (ballpark estimate)?
December 30, 2012 3:04:38 AM

Late January if I recall correctly.
December 30, 2012 6:19:06 PM

Last week of January. We are still on schedule for it, as well.
January 2, 2013 1:02:40 AM

I'm looking forward to it, as I'm sure most of us are!
January 9, 2013 5:27:07 AM

If we can get banned for using bad language, can we get banned for using smilies?

That depends on the smilie.

I'll be aware of that. :)

How about we remove mouse monkey as a mod since he closed my thread on an issue with crysis i had. Very mature to close peoples questions when they have an issue, i definitly wont be using toms hardware as a forum so you guys will have to loose money with ads with this guy in charge.
