Building 1k comp need a flat screen

I need to build a computer for a friend all he will use it for is gaming a surfing the web. Number one thing is he wants a Flatscreen monitor. I can get him something good but Im stuck because I don't want to give him anything worse then a Athlon 64 because dell can give a ok gaming comp at 1k and I don't know if any of you guys know any better set ups. He really wants a good case and thinks the dell case sux but hey he needs the flatscreen. Here is what I have right now but I need to shave 400.00 off but don't know what to downgrade and still say its a better gaming comp then what dell is offering.

I believe your budget is unrealistic. In order for you to get close to $1000, you'd be better off going with a standard .25 dot 17" monitor. You can find them as low as $99 at Fry's or various places online. You could also find a decent case for about half of what you've budgeted. And the nforce3 250 boards are just weeks away. Worth waiting for.

IT sux that he wants a Flat screen as thats what makes it so god damn expencive. If it wasn't for the flat screen I would only be like 100.00 over pluse I would get him a 19". Ack I hate flatscreen monitors and I think they look like crap for games. He needs it because his g/f is the one with the cash and she wants a dell but said that she might consider going through me but she needs the flatscreen. I convinced him that the computer I have here would be much better for him then one that could be build by dell. But to keep it a top of the line gaming computer I would need 1400.00 so he is going to go and talk to his girlfriend and see if he can convince her to spend 1400.00.

All LCD's are flat screen, but a lot of CRT's advertise that too. For a CRT, can't beat Samsung! But if you want and LCD, can't beat Samsung!

Flat screen CRT's are the [-peep-]! I would trade my 600 dollar 17" viewsonic in for one of their 230 dollar crt's in a heartbeat. I never really thought about ghosting.
