Tecra A6 wont recognize uj 850

I wanted to install a uj850 DVDRW to replace the existing cdrw, but it will not read or write to the drive - I get and i/o error. I tried deleting the upper and lower filters in the registry, but without affect. any ideas?

I know that this UJ850 DVDRW is used in many of the Toshiba Tecras. It appears to be more driver related. My research indicates that this drive is compatible, but I get and i/o error. Is it possible that it is an IDE controller issue, rather than just a DVDRW driver issue? Can anyone give mote insight into this?
