Mmmm...If I were you I would just take my money and build a new computer. Why is he selling a computer that is only a month old? How much is the seller asking for the computer? It's probably not worth what he's asking, and it's probably defected. If you are interested in a new computer just say so and we will help you out with buying and building a new one.

The things he isn't telling are the things he doesn't want you to know. I would suggest you stay clear. If he mentions 1 meg cache, its a P4e otherwise its the P4c. The "c" is cheeper. He says the board is intel chipset, so it's not a namebrand, probably ecs, and the graphics are probably some SE by powercolor.

can *usually* email the seller, apologise prefusely and say you changed your mind. Now the problem is if you bidded and won, its legally binding, but he may release you from this contract if he's a decent guy. But he doesnt have to, in fact he's entitled to demand you pay up, as long as you were the auction winner.

ewwh... doesnt sound good... i just emailed him... he still wont tell me what kinda processor it is...we will see what happens.. thanks for the info though...

It's probably a Celeron. You have to be careful on E-bay, but you can find some good deals. You do need to ask a lot of questions before you bid unless things are very clear. A computer is the sum of it's parts, and you need to know what those parts are or you can't make a good buying decision.

I have seen many a secondhand PC priced at the same price as one you could get built new, at a good local PC Store with components you want.

The only way I would buy a used PC is if it was "VERY" cheap and I could see it in operation.

got an email from him and he told me everything about the computer cept what kind of cpu. Ask me "do you have an anal" for asking about the cpu...boy did i get in a pickle..lol

i will admit it was my own fault... live and learn...if i get out of this mess will definitely do it a differnt way....hear it from the wife too... "i told you so"

can anybody relate to that one?

Reply to drifter106

all you have to do is refuse to pay based on him not telling you what cpu it is, if he wont divulge the proper info you dont have to buy and there is not a damn thing he can do about it except to leave you negative feedback, big deal, rather have a negative than buy something unknown...i deal on ebay alot as a seller and a buyer and trust me, tell him to get screwed if he wont divulge the cpu info....

If you're planning on the using the "Don't have to buy if you don't tell me what kind of CPU it has" strategy...I wouldn't bug him anymore about it..

If he says it's an 800mhz FSB it has to be a P4C or a P4E. They do make a 2.8 Celeron but only at a 400mhz bus.
It really doesn't sound like that bad a deal. I think the ATI card is probably at least a 9600SE. If you get all the original software CD's I can't complain. XP Pro OEM alone is 130 bucks. The drives are worth 100 bucks. The processor at least 150 bucks. Might have some cheap memory, but who knows?

Ask him who the warranty is by, and if it is transferable, then check with the warranty people to confirm. No warranty no sale.

It's probably a Radeon 9200. you can get those with 256Mb, for some strange reason.

you are right that an 800FSB chip MUST be a P4. if it's a Celeron He's not selling what he's claimed.

Make sure you get all the original CDs for the software though - all that stuff can be downloaded from kazaa or similar P2P, and obviously you shouldn't be buying cracked software, as it's worthless.

I don't use eBay, so I'm not sure how much power you have after buying something, but if it's a celeron and he doesn't have the disks, then you can tell them he's a lying software pirate

I guess it could have been even worse. As others have said, if its a celeron, he lied to you abouth the 800 MHz FSB, refuse the deal. If its a P4E or C, its not all that bad for the money I guess.

The videocard is likely crap, as endyen (i think) said, its most likely a 9200, I see a lot of them on ebay here as well advertised as "Radeon with 256 MB DDR". They are worthless for gaming. On Aquamark, they perform as "good" as a GF4 MX. Its probably the second worse card on the market today, right after the FX5200. The good news is, you can always replace it for a better one if you want to game. With a better videocard, you should have a capable gaming rig for a reasonable price (assuming a decent case and PSU, motherboard, and adequate and not too noisy cooling solution).

How much and what sort of ram did the system come with ?

Radeon 9200 (non-SE) is not that bad card. It will play most of the current games. It's a better card than MX440 and FX5200 "128 bit memory". It performs on par with GeForce3 Ti200.
