Keys on toshiba laptop dont work

Hello,
have a toshiba laptop satellite 1804-s274..THis goes back to 2002. Suddenly keyboard stopped working and can type in word or excel..I tried a keyboard using usb port and no luck..Did howvever bring up on screen keyboard and it workes..Other than getting rid of this dinosuar did I somehow lock the keys..Need help

On screen keyboard isn't really relevant. Normally I would test with a traditional PS/2 connectior keyboard rather than USB, but the chances are if the USB connected normally and didn't work you have a hardware problem with the laptop.

On a computer 8 years old it may not be cost effective to repair, but you might see if a repair guy will have a look at it.
