System Restore

I have lost the ability to use my System Restore. It goes through all of the
motions but when finished it says the restore operation cannot be done, pick
another restore point and try again. All I get is the same thing. I'm looking
for guidance to fix this problem. I have a home network of a desktop and
laptop. I tried running the repair install option off of the Windows XP Home
Edition CD. But it asks for the administrators password which I don't have or
setup. What do I enter there so I could run the repair install? What other
options do I have? Any and all will be appreciated. Thanks, Charlie Knutson

For the password issue:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/lostpass.htm

System Restore:
here may be corrupted data in system Restore.
Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.

If you didn't set a password just leave it blank and hit enter.
