Anybody Got VOIP Broadband Phone Service?

I only have a cell phone and am thinking of getting internet phone service. Has anyone had this type phone and what do you think of it?

I'm thinking of giving up the cell and just using voip but I think that I'm spoiled and will miss the cell too much.

I was checking out the various services and there seems to be a lot of competition. One service....I don't remember the name offered service for $11 month but it wasn't clear about existing land line service requirements.

Do you have cable for your internet connection, and how fast is it?

Yea I got broadband.

You know now that I've slept on it I think that this is just another case of wanting to play with another electronic gizmo.

I really got a great deal on the cell phone. I got my cell service about a year ago from AT&T before Cingular bought them out. I originally got a plan for 400 min. @ 39.99 a month. Then AT&T calls and they want me to extend my service plan to a two year commitment, so I say, what's in it for me. After some wheeling and dealing they offered me a plan with 1000 anytime minutes free nights and weekends, free roaming and free customer to customer calling. Needless to say I accepted and I haven't used all my minutes yet.

So I really don't need any more phone service, but I would like to play with a new technology.

I would like to chat with someone who has or has had this type of phone service to see what they think of it.

I wonder if perhaps the old twisted pair or so called land line is on the way out. Phone services are limited on their bandwidth, so currently at a disadvantage on bundled services.

Fu<b></b>ck, I was actually interested in this topic ... but this thread has gone to hell so fast ... anyway, what I read is that (at present) VoIP equipment does not seem to "get along" well with routers ... and I use a router ... so, until this is a non-issue ...

And, whenever we have any kind of storm, cable is the 1st to go out (3 times this month), power 2nd, but the land-line phone service hardly ever fails ... and with cheap long-didtance calling cards ... I don't see ,self going for VoIP anytime soon ... [/my 2 cents]

Kind of partial to Mich ... except when I feel like over-spending ... then it's Hacker-Pschorr Original Oktoberfest (Munich Germany) ... and I can't drink more than 4 or so of those ... kind of potent, if you know what I mean ... but I can drink a ton of domestic beers ... and it's my duty ...

Yes I did. Thanks for showing so much concern for my well bieng I have almost completed the first part/chapter. It has taken some time, because the typing/carpal tunnel has severly slowed me down. Its on the way. BTW did you meet DH's son Arnold? He's on speed you know.
