Is there a way of unlocking my cpu without taking it out of the socket, i have a retail AMD Athlon XP 2800+ and the multiplier is locked! My motherboard is a ASUS A7N8X-X Nforce2 400 Dose anyone have any ideas??

128mb ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (430/374)

To unlock your multipliers, you may be able to the "<A HREF="http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html" target="_new">pin-trick</A>" from the the bottom of your motherboard PCB. You can try to short your socket pins with copper wire and some solding. But you do this at your own risk.
And, If you don'T want to remove your CPU it's probably, because you have a warranty sticker on it that woulb break if you remove it? Am I right?
Pin-mods only work on un-locked processors. The mods only change the multipliers they don't actually unlock the processor.
People mislabeled the 8X multiplier bit mod as unlocking because it effectively toggled the low and high range of multipliers. You still need an unlocked processor for it to work.

About that 15x...you'd better read <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=679263#679263" target="_new">this thread</A>
Look at LHGPooBaa's and Buldurga's issues. They both seem to be limited to the max PowerNow multiplier, whether they use BIOS overclocking or software overclocking.
Max multipliers on Mobile XPs are set by the L6 bridges. Though you can change multipliers you cannot go higher than the max.
You won't be able to achieve 15X unless you are willing to mod the L6 bridges or the L5[1] bridge (or so it appears from the given information).

Hey phsstpok, good to see you posting again. Please say you remember who I am, that was quite the discusion we had.
If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.
