Notebook display problem

Forum Mobile Computing : General Mobile Computing Notebook display problem

My notebook display screen is suddenly so dark I can barely see it. Have tried to adjust brightness, reinstalled display adapter, run hardware diagnostics, tried system recovery & Roxio Go-back. I guess it could be the backlight that's gone bad. I can use an external monitor with no problem, so don't think it's a driver\video card problem. Of course it's out of Warranty. It is an HP Pavilion XH555, AMD 1.2 G processor, 512 Ram running Win XP Home Edition. Any ideas? If it's backlight, can I replace myself? Where to get parts? Or, what other suggestions does anyone have? (Replacement screen is going to cost around $800, so need to get fixed instead of replaced. Thanks for any ideas.

I'd bet my money that it's the backlight. If its the backlight, you have to get a new screen. You will sometimes find those off ebay if your lucky, if not, get a new laptop, that's how much a new display will typically cost.

If the problem is backlight, can it be replaced? If so, would that be less Is expensive than a new notebook screen?

Thanks

Yes, and most likely yes. You can tell if it is the backlight by trying to use ur notebook screen in direct sunlight. You should be able to see a very dull, ghosty image of you windows screen in direct sunlight if the back light has failed.

Who's General Failure and why's he reading my disk?
