Arch student compares mac pro vs dell studio 15 & 17 specs

hey guys.
Im an arch student and im looking for a laptop for school projects in softwares such as revit, 3D max, autocad and sketch up, and probly some photoshop. i will be doing alot of rendering. so i decidign between the DELL studio 15 and 17 but the 15 offers the i7 processor im leaning more towards that one.

here the specs for the studio 15:
-NEW 2010 Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Quad Core Processor 1.73GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
-8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
-500GB SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
-ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5470, 1GB

here the studio 17:
-NEW 2010 Intel® Core™ i5-520M 2.40GHz (2.93Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)
-8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
-500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
-ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 , 1GB

here mac pro 17:
-2.66GHz Intel Core i7
-4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X2GB
-500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
and about the graphic card i couldnt find the one that the new mac pro come with it.

so what do you guys think it would be my best option? i meant worth investing my money on?

  1. Hello and welcome to the forums :)
I would go for the first one because it has the best specs for your works
  2. thanks Maziar.. the only problem is that the screen is 15 inch but i can handle that
  3. Well the macbook pro is a good option, but i think its far more expensive than the studio one, however its build quality and screen are better than studio, whereas it has a slightly slower CPU and less RAM
  4. maziar what do u think about this one:
lenovo ThinkPad W510 laptop with discrete graphics
-Intel Core i7-820QM Processor (8M Cache, 1.73 GHz)
    -8 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (4 DIMM)
-500 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
-NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M Graphics with 1GB DDR3 memory
  5. Its pretty much like the Dell studio 15 but it has a better graphic card for graphic-intensive works
