OK, my trip in a couple weeks has inspired me to compile a good road-trip/weekend MP3 CD. Been buying and ripping crap for a week or so (CDs are cheap, now! LOL), but I'm sure most of yall have some quality favs I'd NEVER think of.

So let's hear it, what are your fav road trip tunes? (I realize this will probably either just sink or turn into a discussion where, maybe, once every 15 posts, somebody offers up a new idea, but I figured it was worth a try. )

David Allen Coe Rocks also. But better have liberal riders if they are to tolerate it.

I like to mix things up. i like all kinds of music but i can't listen to one type nonstop.

I like to throw in a COmedy album just to kind of break the cycle of music on long road trips. Lewis blacks white album is hillarious.

I dont know what your into but i will throw out some full albums that are good.

GreenDay~Dookie
Norah Jones~Either album but the 1st is better.
From Autumn to Ashes~The Fiction We Live
Eminem~Encore
Snow Patrol~Final Straw
Keane~Hopes and Fears
Cake~Comfot Eagle

Those are all the full albums that you should atleast look into. I own and have listend to them all and they are all on my MP3Player right now.

I am pretty selective in the HipHop i listen to because a lot of it is really really really really really bad. I only like certain songs from certain people. Most rappers forget its music and forget about keeping rhythm with the background track. You dont have to sing/rap like 50cent but people like nas just lay out the words like a spoken word poet and the background track rarely matched beats with him. Its sounds bad.
It would be like Flea deciding to play his own beat while the rest of RHCP play to another beat. It just sounds uncoordinated and wrong.

Well, figger about 3 hours down there, and I'm the only one with a decent car system. Nothing at the cabin or anything. Barely a shitter.

Putting a compilation together for this and after this, though.

I used to drive from VA to PA and back to atleast 3-4times a week for like 2months. Sometimes there and back twice in the same day. 2.5hours on a good day and 4-5on a bad. and ONCE it took me 12.5hours to get from PA to southern Baltimore.

So i know what its like to need some good music to kill time.

With writing ability....yes, but i see him more as a spoken word poet who just happens to have random music playing in the background. Rarely does it fit together.

As$hole by dennis leary. I'm a big fan of my XM. I highly recommend that. The drive down to Long Beach from the Bay Area went by a lot smoother with that much to listen to.

I listened to a few hours of comedy, a few hours of discovery channel, some news, some talk radio, and a bit of music. Smooth sailing. I hate long distance driving, especially alone, since I get so damn tired but if you have plenty to listen to it's a lot easier.

is sattelite radio worth it? are you in the car enough to warrant buying a system then a registration fee then montly charges...I've been thinking of gettin' one but it seems exspensive...

If life were fair...then Elvis would be alive and all the impersonators would be dead...

Reply to TeeTewl

It was more expensive than I anticipated. I got the system for x-mas but still...

You have to buy the reciever or a deck, installation, and a $10 monthly service charge. You could probably do it for $150 plus the $9.99, but I wanted good sound so I didn't use the wireless modulator but instead bought a wired one. I then didn't like the way they installed it so I had to get a mount. I also bought a cradle for using it at home. Either way I'm very happy with it despite the cost. I take the reciever out when I leave the car so that I can use it at home and I have plenty to listen to no matter where I am. I know a lot of people who have them since commute times here are at least 30 minutes. So you have to figure at least an hour of use every day. Lately I've been listening to techno (almost burned out on it) and the only way is with XM since they took the local stations off the air in all the big markets.

Reply to dhlucke

That's not as bad as I thought...will look in to this more...

If life were fair...then Elvis would be alive and all the impersonators would be dead...

Reply to TeeTewl

I think my total cost was $150 for the reciever, $50 for installation, $50 for the wired FM modulator, $50 for the home cradle, $15 for a mount, and $10 a month. There are coupon deals though for the first 3 months free. I didn't know about that until after I signed up though.
