I am finishing up a Tales of the Arabian Nights pinball machine, and I
have found something strange. I have done the Genie test in the test
menu. That works correctly. When the pinball hits the genie, the
vanishing magnet grabs the ball, takes it under the playfield, and
kicks it out of the bazaar hole. The test indicates that all switches
activated correctly.

However, when I am playing a game, it doesn't drop the ball under the
playfield. When I hit the genie, the vanishing magnet grabs the ball.
It quivers in place for awhile and is then thrown back into play.

I see that you can disable the vanish mech using the A2.20 adjustment.
I've checked this, and the vanish mech is not disabled in software.

What's going on? As far as I know all switches check out OK, and the
vanishing magnet doesn't seem to be binding anywhere (remember it does
work in test mode).

Advice would be appreciated.

That's how it should work. In only takes it below the playfield for
multiball.

Correct. Does that on mine, too.

Thanks for the info. So, what do I have to do to make sure that this
is working properly? If it only does it in multi-ball, how do I get it
to do multi-ball?

Thanks again.

Take the glass off.

Close the coin door.

Start a game.

Play a game.

Use your hands if need be.

Lock two balls.

Then send a ball off the genie.

The magnet should grab the ball, take it under the Pf, and the game should
start multiball.

Of course, you could just play a game wit the glass on until you get two
balls locked and strike the genie.
