If you mean new storage device by "space bar" then it is recommended to restore to another drive yes, as if something goes wrong you can retry restoring.

As if you restore from and to the same drive you'll overwrite the oled files that are on the harddisk(the files youre trying to restore). And if something goes wrong well yeah, you cant restore overwritten parts of the harddrive.
