AMD delayed the 3700+ processor to June... Will S939 only appear by June too, then?

It seems that S939 will clash directly with i925X and i915's LGA775. Improved bus speeds and clocks as well: 2.4Ghz (3700+) A64s with 1Ghz HT bus speeds against 3.73Ghz Prescotts (hopefully not just 3.46Ghz) with 1066Mhz FSB and DDR2-533 memory... If only Prescott got on the 64-bit boat as well...

The only thing that AMD did that pisses me off is the reduced L2 cache for their S939 series, they said it wouldn't take performance hit, with 128bit dual channel memory, they'd better be right.

This is probably the result of lack of pressure from intel. AMD has the lead with FX53. and they dont want A64 to compete with it until Intel makes them do it. 3.2 P4E are still not avilible almost 3 mounths after the launch not to mention 3.4 P4E. I dont think Intel will be able to make a 3.6Ghz modell avalible any time soon I'd expect a mid-late june launch on that part and a july-aougust availabilty on that part. I doubt intell can bring a 4ghz prescott this year - maybe they'll launch it late december but actull avaliblty wont be there.
AMD will probably have the same schedual for A64 4000+.
as I said before I dont think AMDs 90nm process will really matrealize until the very end of the year.

What was the original date the 3700+ would come out ?

AMD makes more money with FX 53 then 3700+, so i think they will wait a little longer, and ofcourse, there would not be a CPU from intel to compete with.

Toms Hardware Site is a joke !

More than 512kb L2 cache has proved practically useless for A64s, since A64 3000+ came. But the reduced L2 cache will result in smaller die and better yield. So we can expect to see A64 getting cheaper.

Well then I guess it's only bad news for the enthusiasts, since the 3200+ overclocked to 2.2Ghz vs the 3000+ overclocked to 2.2Ghz had a fairly big performance difference.

Well i'm sure it's still depending what you're doing, if games are the only thing you're into, then AMD's probably still the cheaper and faster choice.

I was talking about the rumour, not the chip. Can you see a prescott with a 1026 fsb? They dont much like 800, let alone 25% faster. Intel cant get a P4e @ 3.4 out the door, and SIF wants one at 3.7. I want some of what he's been smoking.

I too was mad when I read that AMD was cutting back to 512kb L2 but then I started to think about the performance gain that the extra 512 gave it. It really wasn't much and AMD does say that the improved memory will totally remove and loss of performance from the cache, so we will see.

Crap, all the good ones are already taken.

nForce3 250 is showing it's greatness!

>AMD delayed the 3700+ processor to June... Will S939 only
>appear by June too, then

I'm not too sure here, but wasnt the 3700+ the S754 version and the 3800+ the S939 ? or was it 3600+/3700+ (S754/S939) ? Either way, yes, i read elsewhere S939 launch would be timed against intels i9x5 launch.

> against 3.73Ghz Prescotts (hopefully not just 3.46Ghz)
>with 1066Mhz FSB and DDR2-533 memory

Ahem.. where did you read any of that ? I mean, the 1066 bus is still a rumour afaik, and its not even rumoured to be introduced by June. And a 3.7+ GHz by June ? I'll believe that when I see it, and see it in the shops, not just on hardware review sites. any Prescott faster than even 3 GHz is hardly available anywhere, the 3.4 P4E was a paper launch if I've ever seen one. A 3.7+ actually being available about a month from here doesnt sound credible, especially not with a faster (hotter!) FSB.
