What am i doing wrong with getting Fps up in Bf3

I'm trying to get my fps up while in game but when i press the `¬ button just below esc because ~ button does not do anything, and type in render.drawfps it says false command i have tried various combinations of drawfps like render.drawfps1 , Render.DrawFps1, i'm at a loss is there something i'm missing please help

its render.drawfps 1

when a command has to be enabled in a console. 1 activates the command. and 0 de-activates the command.
