i always wonder, why can AMD cpu run faster than Intel cpus when AMD's cpus have less mhz? isn't mhz how fast data can be processed by the CPU???

Intel chips are insecure. They spend a lot of time checking to make sure they didn't make mistakes.
haha

There are 2 basic parts to CPU performance.

Mhz is only part of picture.
Mhz is the measure of cycles per second in millions.
How many operations the CPU can do in one cycle is the other part of the picture.

Opteron/Athlon 64 can do 12 operations per clock.
Athlon XP can do 9.
P4 can do 6.

Just multiply clock freqency (in mhz) by operations per clock to see total IPC (Instructions per Cycle).
There many other factors that affect performance but freqency and operations per clock have to be viewed together.

Correct me if I'm wrong on those numbers.

So Intel has a 'faster' chip only considering freqency.
On that same note AMD has a 'faster' chip only considering operations per clock.
Considering Performance is a different story.
