Windows 7 Updates ALWAYS lock up

Names Tyler and I'm new to the forum. I'm doing some work for a friend (Im the IT guy and the pickup guy in my friends circle), and his windows update ALWAYS locks up when it trys to do them automatically. When shutting down it just floats the little loading circle for 25 minutes (very small update 3mb, I shut it down manually after I got impatient). If I install it myself then restart it it works fine but I want to get this to go automatically so I don't need to fix it repeatedly. Anyone ever experience this? Windows 7 HP 32 bit, happened for 3 different auto updates. Any thoughts?
