for use with my upcoming Treo 650 purchase. The question is: does the Treo
support the BT Advanced Audio Distribution
Profile(A2DP) which allows the higher quality stereo audio over BT.

No, the Treo 650 doesn't support that profile. As far as I could learn
by reading about it, this profile is part of the 1.2 implementation of
Bluetooth, and the Treo 650 features one Bluetooth v1.1, so you're out
of luck unless PalmOne decides to release a Treo upgrade of some sort.
While not impossible, I'd say that this is highly unlikely. :-(

No, it's independant. 1.2 is just an improvement of the baseband, and
A2DP be done over a 1.1 stack.
A2DP has not been released by Palmsource on Palm OS yet, but palmOne
could have added it. But, as you said, it highly unlikely.

Can this feature be added by a 3rd party software/hardware company?
Can BlueTake write "drivers" to implement this?

Thanks for correcting me! :-)

Looks like they make the hardware/chipset that an actual headset
manufacturer would use to make headsets. The main web site
http://www.adamya.com/ReferenceDesigns.htm doesn't mention any consumer
product. They say "The SBC/MP3 streams from A2DP are decoded and played
back with a resolution and rate upto 16 bit and 48 KHz, respectively."
The question is: what will it take for the Treo 650 to output such a stream?
