I have a Midway Duck Hunt and the score reels on one side are binding
what is the best way to service these beasts? I've already had to
replace the slip joint once and don't want to have to find another one.
Thanks!!

clean it up with WD40!

actually that's probably what I'd do, but NOBODY ELSE CAN DO THIS OK? YOU
GOT IT! DON'T DO IT.

Be sure the leather clutch washers are free and lubricated. I use synthetic
oil on them and it works just fine. You may need to get the gunk out of
the assembly to free everything up. A severe case would require disassembly
and a thorough cleaning.

I think the clutch washers must be the problem they don't appear to
have any lube on them but the ones on the shot count reels do and they
are spinning just fine can they be lubricated without taking the reel
apart?

Sure, the assembly is spring loaded. pull back on the springs and move
the washer away from it's mating surface. add a few drops of lubricant and
you should be fine. The washer should be free spinning on both surfaces.
If it is stuck on, sometimes I use a knife blade to pry it away.

I don't know what you mean by "slip joint", but the common solution is
to grease the bearing at the motor end, or replace it if it's locked
up solid.
