Problems with sd card reader format

Hello, every time i insert my SD memory card to my toshiba laptop it tells me that i need to format the disk in drive before i can use it. and then wen i push format and start it tells me that it is going to delete everything from my card. what can i doo!! helppp me please!!!!!!!!
