TECH: Bally Elektra display 'dots'?

On my Bally Elektra, when the two-digit 'Elektra unit' display blanks,
there are small dots still lit up at the corners of each segment. Aside
from that, the display works fine, BTW.

What causes that and how is it fixed? Overvoltage to that display? Bad
connector?

Thanks,
-Mark.

Sounds like the beginning of outgassing - when the gas leaks out,
creating a dot burn pattern in the process - somebody correct me if I'm
wrong.

It's fixed with a glass replacement if that's what it is - no other way
around that.

Hi Mark, Test the voltage on the high voltage section of the solenoid
driver board, should be around 180vdc, some people go with 170 to 190.
If you can't adjust it with the pot then one of the smaller Q's is
shot. Q22 or 23 I think, going from memory.

If they are at the very edges of the display it's normal to have this -
if they are large like an actual segment it's not. (Look at your
regular score displays, especially on startup (while the game's
booting) and see the orange glow - is it like that?)

No - I know the 'glow' you are talking about and that's not it. It's
bright dots in the middle of each segment and at the corners of each
segment (more or less). They don't appear when any segment is on - only
when the entire display is off.
