I converted one of my computers from WinME to WinXP home SP2.
I backed up the old WinME hard drive with BackUp My Pc (BUMP), then
repartitioned and reformatted the drive, and installed a brand new full
(not upgrade) WinXP SP2. I created one admin account and 4 user accounts.
Then as the admin user, I installed BUMP again and restored WinME's
"My Documents" folder into WinXP's Shared Documents, (making it be
Shared Documents/My Documents), so that the users of the new WinXP accounts
could copy their folders from Shared Documents into their own respective
"My Documents" folders.

When the restore finished, I found that the "Shared Documents" folder
had become named merely "Documents". It contained the restored folder
named "My Documents" (as expected). Ever since then, I've been trying
to get that "Documents" folder to be renamed "Shared Documents" again.

I have verified that the "Documents" folder is marked read-only, and that
its desktop.ini file has attributes Hidden and System, and that it contains
these lines:

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@shell32.dll,-21785

I thought the problem might be the folder named "My Documents" inside of
"Documents", so I renamed "My Documents" to "OLD My Documents", but that
had no effect.

I attempted to compare the registry of this computer with another WinXP
Home SP2 computer that shows "Shared Documents" named as expected.
I found that the afflicted computer was missing one registry value that
was present in the other one. In
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache
the computer that displayed "Shared Documents" had this value:

@shell32.dll,-21785 REG_SZ Shared Documents

So I added that to the afflicted machine, but it made no difference,
even after a reboot.

Some other registry keys that I suspect might be relevant are:

1) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}
2) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{0000009B-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4}
3) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{0002096C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
4) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{00020988-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
5) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\...
...\Shell Folders
...\User Shell Folders
6) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\...
...\Shell Folders
...\User Shell Folders
7) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}

But I haven't found any specific problems with them.
Now I'm just stumped.

Any additional ideas?
