This game is just so dang PLAYABLE (it's not a drain monster)! And so
enjoyable when you do! Now that I've had the game for a while I am
starting to fully appreciate the upper playfield. Alien Invasion FORCES
you to! :) Dang that is one super mode! Really inspired use of
multiball. I will probably never see the REAL wizard mode (much like
Valinor on 'Rings), but this game is so much fun to play it doesn't
bother me near as much. I can see I will come back to this game over
and over just for Alien Invasion and the numerous other mini-wiz modes
(especially SMS).

For me this game is easily Stern's best effort to date. I am in love!

HUGE COMPLIMENTS AND MUCH LOVE TO STERN AND THE SIMPSONS TEAM!! Great
Game!

You are not giving up on LOTR are you?

And yes, TSPP is an awesome game.

~sigh~

Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I still have a certain stubborn drive to get
to Valinor, but my game is such an unforgiving drain monster...

'Rings is just too much like work, and WAY TOO MANY FREAKIN SDTM
DRAINS!!! The blue pad, the post next to the left ramp and the post
between the saucer and right ramp are all death. Not to mention
rollbacks from the center ramp. I flattened the pitch out from where I
had it for months and it's quite a bit better now, but the qualifiers
for Valinor are still too difficult to achieve the way the game sits
now.

Take Fellowship multiball. It must be finished. Just to start it is 8
shots plus a few trips through the thumpers. Then a shot to start. Then
*18* (or 19 maybe?) shots to complete. And half of those shots must be
on Balrog, which is a fair risk of SDTM drains.

Of course it all boils down to ability. Obviously I don't have what it
takes to play at that level on Rings. *shrug*

I need to check my pitch again with a 'meter (the bubble is just
slightly nosing past the top line which may still be a tad steep), but
I have run my other games steep and still can make it all the way
through them on occasion. Almost all the way fairly regularly. Not so
with Rings. I will keep trying, but I'm to the point I don't really
care anymore. I still enjoy playing the game a great deal, but the
frustration from it's propensity to drain takes a lot of the fun right
out of it.

If I can spend this amount of time and energy on a game and still be
nowhere near the end of the programming, it's a safe bet that I will
never see the end of the code. I can accept that and move on to games
that don't drain so much.

PS: Are you going back to Texas this year?

Well, maybe it is time to move on to another game for a spell.
Valinor is not easy but it is well worth it and you will feel great
satisfaction in achieving it. I still am not close to SDMEWM and
probably won't be for some time. (insert koz smirking here)

TSPP is much harder as far as what globally needs to be done, but lotr
seems much more nerve racking-maybe the way one gets yelled at during
the timer countdown. At least in tspp, most times you can reset the
clock with something else.

And yes, I plan on going to Texas again. Fun show, good folks :)

Being a pinball newbie, I have to say i hate LOTR. They have it at the
nickle arcade (2 plays for 6 nickels and 2.50 admission) Part of it is
its probably beat to hell, but they had a TSPP and I enjoyed using 2
credits to play tournament mode and win tickets. TSPP has a good feel.
Drains far less then LOTR. LOTR will never make my personal top 5
favorites (TZ,CV,TSPP,TAF,Starwars)

No game is suited for everyone's tastes. If you don't dig it, don't
play it :)

Furthermore, no game is fun to play if it is in poor working order-not
even the world-famous, highly sought after MM. (Insert the I'd rather
have a blown out MM then a nib LOTR comments ala ford vs chevy)

Funny you should say that. When i was in Paris last year, there was an
Irish pub somewhat near the Invalides that had L0TR and MM. (1 euro
for 1 play, 3 euros for 2 plays--OUCH). First and only MM I've ever
seen. It was dirty as heck and beat up but everything seemed to
function. Lots of fun. Being a L0TR fanatic (just not to the point of
nib), I have to say it's a close call.

That's precisely why I'm liking simpsons so much.

I think my problem with these Ultra wizard modes is that you have to
play for an hour and a half to make it. That's just too much work to
play a special multiball. It's pinball, not aerobics. Now, when I think
about playing Rings, I say to myself, "Are you prepared to play for an
hour and a half?" Most of the time the answer is no, and I don't play.
When I do play, I will do one of the following: Maybe complete two
multiballs. Maybe play There And Back Again. Maybe collect all the elf
gifts. I have never been even remotely close to doing them all in a
single game. If I have all the elf gifts I won't complete any
multiballs. If I make it to TABA, I have puny Elf Gifts. If I get all
the Elf Gifts, one or two multis goes unfinished. It's ALWAYS like
that. I get tired of playing it before I'm even close to the wiz mode.
It's just too much work to play for 45 minutes to not even get close. I
may be missing some secret key that unlocks the game, but I've tried
all defferent kinds of strategies and nothing works. The ratio of
drains to required shots per ball cannot be overcome (by me, anyway).

But Simps has mini-wiz modes for completing several different
objectives. AI blows TABA so far away it's not even visible anymore.
Plus SMS. Plus the others. And you don't have a ramp pointing directly
between the flippers. And it has a great upper playfield.

That is good to hear! I would love to play a few with ya!
