I just bought an Athlon 64 3200 and the GIGABYTE GA-K8NS PRO. I know that with the a64 their is new way to install the cpu heatsink. I think its called a retention bracket or something similar. Does the retail version of either of these products come with what I need to install my heat sink or do I need to get something else? Anyone know of any tutorials?

The retail CPU comes with the little clip thing, i admit it's sh*tty and breaks pretty easily. YOu don't need to buy anything, it's really easy, you don't need a tutorial.

Well I bought the OEM CPU, so i had to get my own heatsink, and i went with the Thermaltake Venus 12 since it was pretty cheap. The stock cooler is very nice for the Athlon64(except retention mechanism) It'll handle moderate overclock ~1.65Vcore.

nice, thanks. And the differences between the oem and boxed cpus were like $9. Not bad.

They should run at rated frequency @ 1.5Vcore, update your bios, gigabyte has a tendency of undervolting, and reporting higher temp than it really is, just a safety thing.

What is the best why to apply arctic silver 5 to my a64 cpu? I have tried the method they say to use on their site, but it doesn’t work that well.
