Pioneer vsx-36tx shuts off if too loud

Hello, I have a pioneer vsx-36tx that when I turn too loud it just shuts off. This happens when the vol is turned up to -12 or louder ( on a -50 to +12 vol scale) during action scenes on movies.
Why is this happening and can I stop it?

IS the receiver really hot before shutting off? It could be a few things but my guess is that you are stressing the amps in the receiver so for safety they shut off so you don't ruin the electronics. What kind of speakers( model, brand and how many) are you using with this receiver? The speakers may not match well with this receiver.
