It seems the mobo on my P-172S FX bit it the other day. So, rather than spend $400 to replace the mobo on this, I figure I might as well throw a few extra bills in and get something nicer. I have been out of the scene for a while and I am pressed for time in doing my research. I see so many things out there now and I don't know what upgrades are best to put my money towards. If I were to look for a full system, would there be anything better than this available for similar money?
I know c2d's are getting outdated and ddr2 ram is on its way out, so I assume someone on here can find me something much better for around $750
I should probably add: I always buy systems with some gaming capability IN CASE I get back into gaming, but I have been out of it for years now. I need a laptop as opposed to a desktop because of college, but the primary uses are playing 1080p MKV's at home, web design with PS3, compiling code and graphics in simulation software such as MATLAB and MAPLE.
I am also quite okay with spending less money, as I was not prepared to need to make this purchase right now.
If you want one with gaming capability, that's a great deal. I doubt you can find anything with better gaming capabilities than that for 750. Two other options though, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Exactly 750 dollars, better processor and slightly worse graphics card but it should be enough for video and everything else you wanted.
For 685 there's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168..., which isn't nearly as good as what you're looking at but is cheaper and has the same GPU, so that might work for you if you want to save 75 bucks.
Thanks for the response! Somehow I got my FX working again. Something is messed up with the SATA or RAID controller. I have to run it on a different setting than previously necessary to get it to work. So now I don't know if I am going to bother buying something else.
