I recently purchased a AMD XP 2500+ and a Shuttle Nforce2 Motherboard form Newegg. Unfortunately, 2 days after they were received, the processor fried. Before this happened, I saw something unusual. My clockspeed was being reported at 1.1ghz! Is there a relation between the two problems?

The only relationship between those problems is that both were caused by an inexperienced builder.

Stupid, but worth to ask: Was there any thermal pad on the HSF or did you apply any thermal paste? I know thse CPU's have thermal protection, but a long term exposure cannot be handeled by it.
P.S. Did you set the correct FSB on the mobo(w/ a jumper that should be done.)

The stock heatsink has a pad on it. By the way, what a CHEAP POS! My god, you have to take a good hard look or it would be possible to put it on wrong which may be what he did. It slowed down right before it died! :frown:
