I get this message when Photoshop completely crashes while trying to recover auto-recovery project. It crashes on me several times a day, particularly when saving or opening a new file while working on another file. Usually it does not give me an error message, but today it won't even open long enough for me to do anything and this is the message I get:

You'd be surprised how often filesystem corruption causes problems like this.

1. Open a command window
2. Type "chkdsk c: /f /v /r" (without the quotes) then press <enter>
3. Answer the resulting prompt with a Y <return>
4. Reboot and wait (this takes a long while)
5. Repeat for each HD volume (d:, e:, f:, etc.)

My first guess is that you're running out of memory when you try to open 2 projects at the same time. I'm not sure that contributed to you're (possible) file-corruption, but it could have.

T thank you, everybody. I will try all of these things. I know I only have 8G in my computer at this time, and I have been jonesing to upgrade something, so maybe that will take care of the problem AND satisfy my builder urge, lol! And I do have lots of cleaning up to do, on files seen and unseen. I really appreciate the help, and I'll post back when I've tried these. I also reset my preferences in PS and it did not crash this time.

Well, I thought my problem was solved when I reset my prefs, but apparently not. Going to run chkdsk now. Wish me luck.
