Tom's Hardware editors in eight countries introduce themselves and the technology they use. You might be surprised to learn that, while we play with a lot of hardware before it comes out, those parts usually don't make it into our personal systems.

I think I'm turning gay!
But seriously, I admire these guys! Chris and Don, many thanks! You have my great appreciation and a lot of the members here at TH shouldn't take you guys for granted. Looking forward to more cool reviews!
I'd also like to thank every other editor (or anyone who contributes to the articles) whether they're listed in this pic article or not! LONG LIVE TOM'S HARDWARE!
(BTW, for some odd reason, I thought you were German, Don. Sorry about that.
)

majudhuno doubt about apple marketing here
I would think the editors needed something thin and light to carry around. before the advent of ultrabooks and sleekbooks, there arent many choices for extremely thin strong laptops(disregarding cost as a factor). Albeit I was never a fan of apple pricing, their engineers are really good at making the laptops thin and efficient heat wise. The thin counterpart to a macbook on windows would be the razor blade, but that thing is even more expensive than a mac. It also doesn't hurt to use a unix based operating system as a mobile unit.

mayankleoboy1Great read! Been waiting for an article like this for a loong time.No love for Andrew Ku and Crashman ? they do ~ 50% of the articles
Those two are camera-shy. If folks like this one, though, we have a ton more editorial guys around the world. We just have to trick them into participating.

cangeliniI shout-out readers all of the time in stories when they help figure something out or ask questions that lead to new lines of testing and stuff.
Its a thankless job and one that I am grateful others do for me, I used to freelance test and well the manhours needed while its a good job or hobby consumes a lot of time and resources. I know many and possibly myself have been at times hypercritical, but ultimately the work done here is of a standard I appreciate and I am sure many others do.

Russia: Stanislav Vasiliev has the most impressive rig!I had the same thoughts though not totally (depending on how you look at it, like from a gaming perspective) but definitely price-wise. There was someone with a GTX 680 (Don maybe, sorry, just about to go to sleep so I feel to lazy to check). Now add that in then you have icing on the cake.

Hate to break it to ya but the IT world includes Apple too.
The broadcast industry (of which I am a part of) makes everything happen using Macs. Granted, the servers are largely loaded with custom software and/or Windows. But the desktops/laptops are nearly all Mac. Those sports broadcasts that most of us watch on a weekly basis... powered by Macs AND Windows machines.
So when is the "Meet the writers?"

Nice read, I enjoyed it. Hopefully there will be future installments.
On another note, there's a world of difference between buying Apple products because you're a member of the mindless Consumerist sheeple-herd who thinks you're being cool by doing so, and buying them because research and personal experience have shown that specific Apple products handle the specific tasks you have very well.
Edit: Personally, I own no Apple products. I am eager to bash the sheeple mentality too, but if an Apple product suited my needs, it would be mindless to ignore it simply because it's Apple.

Finally some insight into why there is so much dang apple news on this site.
It was really cool to see the differences in everyones setups and configurations. Get an idea of the differences in each persons priorities an preferences.
I constantly found myself comparing each persons setups to my own, lol.

It's great to know whom is writing all the contend we read. Thanks a lot for your efforts and time. Tom's hardware being such a major worldwide hardware-tech related site, why don't you have a Spanish site? I found myself trying to proof my recommendations to my friends with this site, but they just can't understand it and they just limit themselves to read the charts and believe my translations. If there is any plan to open a "spanish tom's hardware" I would be gladly to help, support or whatever it's needed to make it happen

greghomeAH!!!!! the horror.....they all have a Mac.....
I Don't! It's all Windows desktops/laptops/nettops for me, bro.
I do have an iPhone. But I tried Windows phones first, really I did! Unfortunately, Windows Mobile just didn't gel, and that's what I had before. Even as a PC guy, I have to admit Apple nailed the iPhone.
The new Windows 8 ecosystem might bring me back to Windows phones tho.

damn don, never thought Id see someone replace a 7970 oc with a 680. itd be understandable if it was free, but damn, is the switch worth it?I switch cards out all the time just to try them out.
Honestly, I don't think I really notice a real-world difference between the two as far as performance is concerned. They both drive the 2560x1600 Dell 30" just fine.

Anyway, thanks a lot all of you! been reading this site every day for one and a half years now...loved it

cangeliniWish I had time to make a meme for this If you think that owning Apple hardware makes you any less passionate about the PC...you're going to have a bad time.
HOLY OGM!!!! Please keep the pictures of apple products to yourselves! I mean there's no excuse except the Ipad which currently has very little competition. I look up to you guys, and my stomach hurts to see so many iMacs/iPhones/Macbooks. Almost everything you guys publish makes a pretty solid statement about building and mod-ing and videocards and servers and pure awesomeness. I feel at home here. I sometimes glance at cNet, and PcWorld, and other website and I come right back here for some real nerd articles. I mean Apple doesn't have bad products, I really believe the opposite, but it doesn't represent you guys. At least not what you're painting yourselves to be. Apple represents non-customizable closed environments at a higher cost. You've proved it yourselves. You can buy any PC for less with similar specs. And phones? Are you nerds like us? I drive up to my house and my phone connects to the wifi-server, turns off 4g, turns on my main PC with wake-on-LAN, and my air conditioning through x10, triggers a log-in and has my kinect listen and watch for commands. I can't do that with and iPhone. Only android. Sorry... I'm a bit hurt, but I still love you guys, you do a phenomenal job writing.

I'm a PC madman, but even I can admit that Apple makes a decent phone and tablet. I can even buy one if it suits my needs, that doesn't mean I'm drinking the Kool-aid.
You don't want to be like the Apple fanbois who throw a gasket when someone suggests that their precious i-whatever isn't gods gift to perfection. It's a slippery slope!
Must have balance, DigitalWarlord-San.

I'm sorry, I totally agree. It's just that I didn't know this and I felt like my world was flipped upside down. That's how much I look up to you guys. and I did mention I do think Apple makes great products. I guess in my fantasy world my idols use non-apple products lol. You guys do great and my comment was me just crying. haha... thanks for your good work.

What did you guys expect from a bunch of journalists anyway? These desktops are probably for show, and what they in fact do all day is sit around at Starbucks and pretend they're writing movie scripts on their F*gbooks. You got a smirk out of me with that one, well played.
If you're being serious though, it's probably time to re-examine your life and take the drama down a few notches...

Regardless of whether or not Apple products suite your needs, you shouldn't be using them. From a pure consumer stand-point, the products they sell are either inferior, more expensive, or both. Their anti-competition and patent-trolling tactics are bad for the computing market as a whole -- if they had their way, no one but Apple would be allowed to sell computers, tablets, and phones. You guys are so passionate with your reviews and articles, then make the conscious effort to use that Apple junk. It's a little disappointing.

jaquithYou sure in the hell would never know it with all of these G'damn anti-Apple articles or articles with the explicit intention of pitting one patron against one another. Stop it!!! Self Loathing...?? or Hypocrites...?? or Both?Frankly I'm tired of seeing any article with the mere mention of Samsung or Apple anywhere in them.
That doesn't add up. I'm not sure how many tech sites you've been browsing around, but Tom's does a pretty good job at keeping articles diverse and within the techie spectrum if you will. Not many Apple anything on here. If you go to a website like cNet, you'll notice that 1 of 3 articles revolves around Apple. and it's not particularly pitting any brand, these guys go a long way try to explain the logic behind their argument with benchmarchs and statistics. That's not something everyone does.
jaquithSo you wonder where all of the hate is coming from ... well duh.I use both Apple and Microsoft based PC's, and I like them both. To others deal with it. However, these frigging articles makes one think you as an Editor wouldn't know an Apple from a Donut hole.
No one really cares what you use. I mean, we really don't. We come here for guidance on practical and useful hardware facts, sometimes shinny new toys but regardless, we try to evaluate it's worth and value, not it's hype. If you're trying to convince anyone that buying your beloved Apple anything was worth the money you're going to have to do better than that. Trust me, I'm bias often 'cause I hate that Apple logo, but I recognize it's strengths too. Like the iPad for instance. The iPhone is great too, but it's not geek worthy in my eyes. Anyway, unless you're a Avid mac user who uses terminal to modify access permission within a network protocol, I'm not impressed by your little apple logo, and you're argument is not valid.
