I have a radeon 9800 pro, yet i still get a little slowdown in Farcry, when my mates radeon 9600 xt doesn't the only thing i can put it down to is the ram on the graphics card. his is 256, mien is 128. The games requirements on maximum settings is 128meg graphic cards.

The slow down is pretty rare but it happens.

My Cpu is a 3.2ghz pent 4
My mates is a 3.00 ghz pent 4
i have 1 gig of kingmax Pc4000 ram 4x 256 duelchanneled
he has 512ram.

Any thoughts? suggestions? i thinking of upgrading the card to the x800 in a couple of weeks anyway.

Also, i have updated the videocards drivers, and have direct x 9 installed.

I'm a bit of a Pc noob when it comes to hardware and software, so any advice would be appreciated.

Far Cry enjoys 256mb of video memory, check the benches on 1600x1200 res.

On the R3XX series, the 256mb really doesn't make a difference.

I wouldn't upgrade to the X800 series 'til the Nvidia's counterpart has been released.

i keep on hearing about the new nvidia mmodels and the new patch to improve their performace by 30%. which is a lot if its true. right now best card is x800pro which is available in mass quantities. but dunno what will happen during summer, i say wait till half life 2 is launched and buy the best card then. which should be launched in september i think.

You and f*cking half life 2, i gave up on that game after i saw far cry, so i think we all should buy a Far Cry card, not HL2 card, and I don't think HL2's coming 'til next year, at least that's what i heard.

hl2 is the most anticipated game ever! probably the best ever! when its released you will see if anyone at all will talk about farcry. farcry has nice graphics and all. but you shouldnt compare the 2 games. half life 2 just by its name alone is in another lane.this is like comparing a ford vs ferrari.you cant compare.

What are we discussing/comparing here? A marketing strategy or a computer game?

In terms of marketing strategy, FarCry did not do bad, it did ok, had a good beta test (marketing wise) and it got great reviews.

The hype around HL2 has been excellently excuted until the real delays started kicking in. If HL2 gets another serious delay (so let's say early 2005 release instead of the anticipated September 2004) they will not be able to sustain the attention curve anymore and it will start to hurt them seriously. It's already hurting Id with Doom3 and they never even published a release date yet. It is virtually impossible to keep a good hype and attention build up in place for 2 years.

In terms of comparing the actual games, that cannot be done yet as FarCry has been released and HL2 is not, so not much to compare there. My guess is that the single player mode will have a hard time beating FarCry in terms of gfx. I am expecting a good attempt in terms of single player game play. Although the FarCry AI is pretty good, there's lots of loose ends in the FarCry gameplay that can be improved upon. With regard to multi player, it should not be too hard to beat FarCry in that department.

In the mean time CryTech and Ubi are generating steady income from FarCry while Valve and Steam are still only spending money on their project.

My conclusion is HL2 is far too overhyped, the demo when they first released was like last summer, that seemed GREAT!! The graphics were amazing!! Now i watched it again... meh... i can't even say if it's better than far cry, but then again that's a movie, so would differ in gameplay.

Lets face it, HL2 is one of the most anticipated games ever, why? it has been delayed forever. Im not saying it wont be a great game, because it will probably get game of the year. But if they keep delaying, the game wont have any technological advantages over any other game that will be released at the same time.

I want to see HL2 soon, they way its going i wont see it for a while, and by the time its released we will have games out that will put the graphics to shame.

My system specs: Athlon XP 2500+ barton, 512MB PC2700 RAM, MSI motherboard, WD 80GB special edition, ASUS radeon 9600XT

I forget where I read it, but it said that the Half Life 2 graphics aren't going to be any better than any games that are currently released. Yes it will have DirectX 9 features, but the graphics won't be any better than FarCry.

What is your AGP aperture set at? If not, put it at 128. Also have you just upgraded to the Radeon 9800 pro? If so, wat was you last AGP card?

As the guy states; he has not got in-dept knowledge of software or hardware, their machines could be different configured all over. But truely, a 9600xt can't really compare to a 9800pro if that is what you meant. No offence intended

Non at all. What I was trying to convey was that he has a config issue on his machine if his buddies machine with a lower AGP is smoking it. Could be software or hardware. If the machine is configured right, then it should smoke the shizzel out of his buddies machine.
