CC is a really cool game. I played one for the first time at
California Extreme recently. It may be a little easy - I had a mega
game the first time I played it. There are plenty of toys, great sound
and humor in the software. Too bad there weren't more produced. Its a
great game, but not worth the premium collector's price that it
commands. I'd buy one if it was in the same price range as a T*OTAN or
A*FM.
Don't expect any software updates. There is no money in it. The code
will be copied and handed out for free within days. The best you can
hope for is a re-release of the game by Wayne, in which case it would
make sense to update the software. Don't hold your breath though!

Its a fun game that many hate because it is expensive. It is not a
difficult game so it gets bashed for that too. I have one and really enjoy
it.

One thing you have to remember with CC is that they barely did any
testing or tweaking with the software, so as a result, in factory
settings it is relatively easy to reach some of the goals and thus get
to High Noon. With a little adjustment, you can make the game much
more challenging, which I'm sure is what would have happened had WMS
not rushed it out the door. Example: Set the combos on the hardest
setting, suddenly it's not so automatic that you will get that point on
the star. In factory setting, any decent length of game and you will
achieve it without even trying. Another example is the Bart Bros, have
them set to take the same # of shots to complete as it does to finish.
say, the King of Payne on MM, and suddenly HN becomes very difficult
indeed!. And as far as HN goes, it obviously wasn't finished, I'm
sure it could be made much more satisfying with a little code work.

This is why I think Wayne should sell/license the source code and
development tools for specific games to third parties. Those third
parties could then either update it as a labor of love or pre-sell copies.
I for one would love to work on the source code for CC and/or SS.

I hate the thought of signing NDAs on code *ever*, but for that I'd sign
one. For sure.

I'm not sure I see a benefit for Wayne to do it *other* than community
goodwill (granted, that is a pretty huge one). I can't see it being very
useful for remakes of older games...he'd have no way to control what these
helpers were doing. I can't see any way it would make him money, either,
unless he simply wanted in exchange for this "good will" to be the one and
only source for upgrade ROMs. But if he put that kind of condition on it,
few would bother doing any real work, I think (I wouldn't help).
On the flip side, I don't see a reason for him *not* to do it. I'd think
you'd want to put controls in place so no source got released outside the
NDA and that all objects that got released were Home-Only (won't take
money). That and a disclaimer should pretty much cover liability issues.
Then you've got quite a lot of good will, assuming some capable folks *do*
step up and sign the NDA and do start doing "cool stuff" (fixing
outstanding bugs we know about, adding cool features, etc).
Or he could just ignore the whole issue, I suppose.

I'll risk blasphemy and say the following: What about adding to TZ's
code to make it even deeper--like LoTR deep? Get all the camera awards
and get the Super Camera mini-wizard mode. Everytime you defeat the
Power, get something like an Elf Gift--then once you complete the door
panels, get LITZ. Get all 3 and have a deeper wizard mode with actual
objectives and rewards, Flame suit on.

the trick, you say? Have a new backboard made to plug in with all the
indicator lights you'd need.

It took Ted Estes 16 months to do TZ 9.4 ROM. And those changes were not
nearly as complicated as what you're proposing. And that's the guy who wrote
the damn thing in the first place. Although very enthusiastic and neat idea,
I doubt very much it will happen, but then again what do I know, I'm a
clueless dumbass anyway.

Wow! That long just for the 9.4 revision? Wouldn't this suggest the
need for a more efficient way to program these things? Can't someone
create "building blocks" of sorts?

I am a computer programmer ( bet the farm on the Java™ platform with
dubious success so far), and assembly code programming is a biatch for me,
so yes it's not easy to do.

I'd have to agree. This is just a little
over the top.
Maybe the "Fields" posts riled him up
or something....

pissing match a draw. Ineed, you can both piss. Ok? Good You're both

Thank you Cliffy. Both of these gentlemen are very fine men. Maybe time to
exchange a few private emails and apologise for their parts in letting
things get out of hand. Maybe a game of pinball and become friends again.
Please. Lloyd

I asked nicely and now, enough. that was the longest retreat in history
Now, put it to bed. I'm hoping Manic will be big enough to let you
have the last word... I hope. Back to pinball, ok guys?

Of course, dude... He's stewing, steaming and boiling, he's "the last word
is mine, damn the rest" type...
You are, (of course, is there any other way to describe you) a nice, kind,
noble, gentle, peace brothers, let's talk pinball, guys), diplomatic
mediator. Guess everybody is in their element.

Hmmm let's see - I gladly said enough - you said enough...but
then we get the defensive "legal length" reply (longest retreat
in history indeed) and now you wanna try to poke at me
some more while kissing up madly in every direction...
*smootch*
Umm WHO had two get the last TWO words in?
I must have really rattled your cage and for that I do apologize...
anything - whatever - just please take your porno and go.
