I have windows 2000 fully updated however my moms bf just bought xp home edition... should I install xp or keep 2000? It's running fine and smooth, however an upgrade/new look would be nice I guess. He installed on his computer, am I able to install on mine with the same serial? Is it worth it, I know they're both the same 32bit os... does xp use more memory? I have 768...

if you got 2000 pro dont upgrade to XP Home.
If it was XP Pro I might have told you to upgrade but the home edition is pretty sucky IMO.
768 is good you basically need something like 512 to run XP real smooth

They basically use the same amount of memory, lots of people find XP a lot faster though, and Win2k more compatible. I would certainly vote for winXP anytime

Absolutely not! You'll have to buy your own copy. Maybe you can qualify for the Academic Edition of XP Pro. I have 2000 at work and it runs fine.

XP is 2000 with more flash looks (wasted resources). Just keep 2000 till you get a new machine.

I'll keep win2000, however does microsoft have the same serial checking for 2000 as with win xp? : \ I have the same copy w/ the same serial of 2000 installed on a few different computers at home. Can I be caught?

THe home version is the PRo stripped down with less otpions.
Just for example its impossible to join domain with the Home version. Also if you go in services you only see half as many as in the PRo version. Altough these services are running you cant stop them. ie: The messenger service(net send not msn messenger) cant be stopped directly in the home version and this service is used for spamming and its annoying.
And theres many more managing features missing...
Anyway I even find the Home version less stable.
