I'm upgrading from a VERY OLD 1000 Thunderbird and can't decide on what to get. My 2 choices based on a $400 budget are Athlon 64 2800 or Athlon 2800XP. I'll be getting a new mobo with each processor either a VNF3 for the AMD64 or a DFI NFII Ultra for the 2800 XP and of course 512MB of PC3200. Any recommendations? Whatever I get will definetly be an improvement. Graphics card and hardrive are already up to speed. Thanks,

that's a no brainer; get the A64. Significantly faster (it beats the AXP3200+ by a good margin on just about any test), and lots of features likes AMD64, C&Q, NX, ... well worth the extra $50.

mvave, aipzoomfly and new egg are all running specials on a64 cpu + select mobo + free far cry game. Mwave also has some kind of custom fan/heatsink they offer with the oems as well as cheap prices on memory with the bundle. They will also test the set up for you for like $9 I believe.
