HI
I would like to know what would be the best CPU for a lot of data compressions, cd ripping, manipulations of very big files and dvd/cd burning. I think that the AMD ATHLON64 3000 would be good enough for that. Should I buy it?
Thanks

yes, yes you should. Not long ago we had a table showing the benchmark results from WinRAR and i do beleive that Athlon 64's topped the table. Can't remember the thread name, either search for WinRar benchmark or be lazy and wait for some1 to post the link for you.

Not the Official Sicko of THG.

For data compression, A64 is the CPU to get and 3000+ is the best price/performance A64 processor.

You may also want to look at this page to get a look at what the P4 is capable of with hyperthreaded, SSE2 enabled software (Magix MP3 Maker supports both): http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20040601/socket_939-23.html. But as you can also see on that page, software that still relies on the old x87 floating point instructions runs better on AMD's.

I've seen ZERO people who uses Magix MP3 maker or MP3 Pro.

This benchmark has no practical value at all.
