All,

I found this link concerning Atari Hercules and its production number.
How accurate is this information? Does everyone feel that Atari made
only 280 of these machines? I heard from an old op years ago that they
made 500. I have been trying to find out how many Atari accually made.
Any info would be helpful.

There is another thread ongoing from Jimmy at Sledworks. Maybe he can
shed some light on this. I have only seen two in my life. There was one
kicking around the Seaside Heights boardwalk in NJ and I think there is
still one at Canobie Lake Park in NH. Lloyd in Maryland I think he had
several for sale recently. He might know some of the details.

If you look at collecting rule of thumb they say that the # surving
will be 1/2 of total for every 10 years. So in the case of this pin you
are looking at about 125 or 70 survivng machines.

I had four at once recently. They are hard to sell, no matter how rare
they are. I think I got $400 for the nicest one, and the customer told
me it worked when he plugged it in. I was still glad to be rid of it.

Not many places have room for a pinball the size of a 4 by 8 pool table.
Plastic playfield glass wasn't popular, easy to burn, melt, and scratch. And
a pain to work on the playfield, the bottom opens and you are under it. 280
is a lot built for a novelty piece that won't earn the same as a normal pin.

Joes Playland at Salisbury Beach MA had one in operation on their second
floor a few years back, I don't know if it is still there. I also saw one
at Seaside Heights this spring. This one had a real glass playfield glass!
Must have been quite heavy!

I spent three plus days at Atari during this run. (It was only an hour
up the road from me). There were 9 on the floor under assembly. The
same machines that were there Monday when I arrived, were still on the
floor on Thursday when I left. They were sharing floor space with
another game at the time, (which was not pinball). I remember
thinking, "who in the hell is going to buy these"? I walked over to a
pallet of boxes on the floor that was full of what looked like billiard
cue balls. The two guys that were working ont the most complete unit
were making jokes about the balls and needing a cue stick to play the
game. I was totally blown away that you had to practically crawl onto
the machine to work on it.

Atari was not pumping out games like William's, Premier, or Bally.
During the same year I was at Bally for a few days, and they were
moving games along each day at a regular rate. I think <300 is a
correct figure. Even at this number I am amazed. Based on what I
experienced, 100 would have surprised me.

If anyone is really after one, Clay Dubofski has one in the Seatlle
area that may be available.

Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio had 2 Hercules games back in the
olden days. I recall being thrilled at seeing a "giant" pinball
machine. Not sure if the games are still there but Cedar Point does
still have a number of older games in the main arcade.

I was at Cedar Point last week. Both games are still there. One was
working the other wasn't.

Any other games of interest (EMs, old SS games) still in the arcade??

I can only remember the games I played. They had a nice collection of
EM pins Fireball, 4 Million BC, and around 10 other titles.

I don't remember seeing any SS games except for the two Hercules.

DMD: they have an awful looking Monster Bash in the arcade. The
playfield was trashed. The ware on the playfield was the nastiest I had
ever seen on any pin. The hotel in the back by TGI Fridays had a nice
Monster bash.

They also had a NBA Fast Break

I've seen quite a few of them over the years.....and i almost gotta say that
based on that there had to be more than 280 made. But what do i know?

Anyways, I'm still looking for the Marquee that goes on the top of the game
saying how its the "worlds biggest game...." Or something like that.

If you guys know of one please let me know. Thanks,

I was there a month ago. They had an Old Chicago, Pioneer, Travel Time
and Expo that I played a few games each on. There were a few others I
can't remember off hand but I do remember the 2 Herc's on each end of
the lineup along the back wall. Playing one of those half-dead machines
still beat the hell out of waiting in line for the top thrill dragster

They had one at the Tilt! arcade in Laguna Hills Mall about twenty
years ago-I remember that the damn ball is the size of a cue ball,
making for not the most exciting action (i.e., slow as molasses in
winter). Certainly it's a novelty - I would think having one would be
akin to having an albatross hanging from one's neck..

Is that the price or the shipping cost?

It's not just the size of a cue ball, it IS a cue ball!! Truly a
boring game. Best Ataris are Road Runner and Superman.
