Hi, I want to reinstall windows on my computer. I put the CD in and it says
that a reinstallation cannot be done, I need to do a new install. The thing
is, if I do a new install and it asks me for a CD key, I don't have one. I
bought my computer from a gateway store and it already had Windows XP on it.
I never got a CD key.

I also had a problem when I reinstalled windows on another computer, the CD
key it came with didn't work. I had to use the key from another computer I
have. What's going on with the CD keys?

If the PC was bought with Windows pre-installed on it, you must have a CD
Key sticker on the case or on the underside of the laptop. Also, if it was
pre-installed, you may have had a System Recovery CD which will restore the
original XP, with Key installed and activated, at the time the PC left the
factory.
