I recently purchase a Dell 1135n 3 in 1 printer/fax/scanner. The problem I am having is that when you send a fax, the modem sounds are ridiculously loud. All sound controls have been turned to off, and this is still the case. Incoming faxes are no problem.

One Dell tech told me this is how the modem sounds and cannot be remedied.
Another said it was a glitch, and had a second printer sent out - same problem.
A third tech told me to contact my phone company. His supervisor advised me to put three DSL filters on my phone line and this would solve the problem. A fourth said this is not a proven solution.

I have a hard time understanding how 3 dsl filters are going to reduce the modem noise if the modem is in line ahead of the filters. Again incoming fax sounds are a non-issue.

Am I wrong about this, or is what the supervisor saying about dsl filters somehow plausible?

Where is the sound coming from? Is it the actual dialing sounds from the printer? If that's the case, no dsl filters or anything outside the printer will fix things. Find where the speaker is located and unplug it.
