I just read the article on how to make put together a PC in order to make a DVD.
Ouch!
I know you guys are gear-heads and all, and the author explains the ordeal he went through to build the system "fun," but really...should that much effort go into making DVD's of your last vacation to Disneyland?
An eMac with a DVD burner and a Sony DA2 for analog video input would go for about $1,800. That's it. Open the box, turn it on, edit, burn.
Why do y'all do this to yourselves?
Seriously. No mocking or joking going on here. I really wanna know. Is it really "fun?" Is the Mac alternative less enjoyable 'kuz it's less of a challenge to make it work?
Correction: How to make a DVD - Jeeze, the guy who wrote the article is nuts!
That article was way too long and filled with way too much anal retentive detail. I don't doubt that an Apple is better for this type of work and I think the new Apples are totally cool but pcs are not nearly as bad as that article made them sound. Doing the same job on a pc is as simple as buying a system with a dvd burner and a video input card, open box, hook it up turn it on and go. The difference is with a pc you have more options and that can make things more complicated if you prefer. Instead of buying someones pre-configured system you can pick one of many dvd burners, one of many video capture cards, and one of many editing softwares. These choices extend to all the system componants with a pc and someone really anal could make it sound like there is no way to edit video without a p4 2.8G, 1G of ram and an array of 10 raid drives but the truth is that almost any newer system can do an ok job of video editing if it has a good capture card and some sort of burner.
Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire.
