Yeah, I know. Intel says no, no, absolutely nothing is wrong, and we're fixing the problem we don't actually have...that is, we would be fixing it if we had it. Heh.
Charlie from TheInq is VERY doubtful (and ticked off) at this point, though; he apparently got hints--and Intel denials--about this a couple of weeks ago?
that means your screwed with you Prescott!!!
Hehe. Probly not much AMD found and errata not long ago, most of the time if it hadnt been found yet its probly a really rare bug that probly wont affect you.
well right now it means that end user will have to wait longer for some 925/915 motherboards and possibly for new s775 prescotts. right now, intel only has to recall the baords from the oems that they sent them out to.
how serious are these ussues and what exactly would it mean for the end-user?
Generally the CPU errata are rarely tripped and get fixed with microcode updates anyways. It's pretty common for the system BIOS to include microcode updates and upload them to the CPU on boot, so you're probably OK if you just
keep your system BIOS flashed up-to-date.
The Grantsdale issue, OTOH, is a bit more serious. Intel's busy recalling parts because of it.
<i>"Intel's ICH6R SouthBridge, now featuring RAID -1"
"RAID-minus-one?"
"Yeah. You have two hard drives, neither of which can actually boot."</i>
well i would be pretty suprised if they hadnt solved the problem by now, its bad enough that the story of recalls has to get spread around, the most they can do is fix the problem quickly before it got out of hand and try to contain the fire lol
oh yeah they said it was an early release problem, i know that, but it still doesnt stop the bad pr, i mean how is having to recall a new chipset a good thing? it wont kill intel, but it doesnt help them either. but evne intel doesnt know and wont say wether all the chipsets were affected, and if any mgiht sneak into consumer hands, i guess only time will tell.
believe me, im sure they cna handle it, im just saying it would have bee n better not to have to ask oems to send back baords, no matter how many were affected.
Well I don't know about normal I think HP just anounced close to 1 million intel notebooks to be recalled. Could be many more from IBM DELL. It's not grantsdale related but a memory problem that effects a few intel chipsets in notebooks.
There are links about this all over the place not a good week for intel.
If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.
With regard to the notebook issue darko raised, the way <A HREF="http://h30090.www3.hp.com/mmrp/default.asp?fid=70&action=getFAQ#3" target="_new">HP describes it</A>, it sounds like a memory module issue. In fact their solution is to send out replacement memory modules to those who might be affected. They even say this:
Quote :
Is every memory module sold with the notebooks listed above affected by the described issue?
No, the issue involves memory modules made by only some of the memory module manufacturers who provide memory modules to HP.
That sounds like a problem with memory that wasn't manufactured up to spec.
hehe, right! it's the best cpu I've ever had thanks for the calm-down, would not want to be forced into the AMD-world, which I should not discuss further
